Q: What is ECU Programming / ECU Coding / Reprogramming

A: ECU Programming and Coding is the procedure of which OE or Aftermarket software, and pass-thru tooling is used to enter software information data into a replaced module/electronic control unit that would typically come blank internally with no base info data in the unit.

Reprogramming is similar to Programming as in which instead of writing of a blank unit, info is rewritten/updated to often fix manufacturer issues within with original software or to enhance/update the features of which the module already had

Q: Are used modules okay to use?

A: The answer isn't all that cut and dry yes or no while it is not recommended to use there is often a chance of reprogramming a vehicles module from one to another successfully but not always guaranteed.

When it comes to ADAS modules we don't recommend the use of these units as a ADAS module is a lot more delicate internally versus most others and can complicate a calibration and or function erratically not knowing what has happened to it prior, we see this as a safety concern.

Q: What is ADAS and ADAS Calibrations?

A: ADAS stands for Advanced Driver Assistance System, such as Blind Spot Warning, Front radar/Adaptive cruise control, Cross traffic alert, Forward recognition system, 360-degree camera, Night Vision Camera assistance, Lane departure camera/ Warning

ADAS Calibrations come in 2 forms Static and Dynamic

Static calibrations are performed with the vehicle in a stationary position in a controlled environment with level floors, adequate space and proper lighting in order for a technician to successfully carry out a calibration using targets that are placed with precise measurements

Dynamic calibrations are performed often after a static calibration when required. This procedure involves putting the vehicle's intended module in a calibration state via OE software or a aftermarket scanner that's capable and driving the vehicle to the calibrations specifications that fine tunes the modules sensors while driving picking up on lines in the road, objects, pedestrians, etc. until completion is obtained
